Here are some reasons why insurance is not accepted at LEAP Solutions:

  • Psychoeducational assessment is rarely covered by insurance companies, as these services are deemed “educational” rather than “medical”, regardless of being in or out of network.

  • Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis and evidence of impact on day to day functioning in order to reimburse; this is not always the result when families come in seeking guidance and/or assessment. In situations where a diagnosis is appropriate, families will be encouraged to share the diagnostic assessment with their pediatrician, family doctor or mental health provider so that they may update the child’s medical file.

  • Insurance companies require pre-approvals of every assessment component prior to the session.  Psychoeducational assessment cannot always be prescribed ahead of time, as it is tailored to the individual needs of the child and is subject to change before, during and after the initial plan. This can slow down the process and make it more difficult to complete proper assessment.

  • At this time, many insurance companies will not accept claims unless the evaluation was completed with someone holding certifying credentials (i.e., HSPP, PhD, PsyD, MD).

Without insurance company’s rules and regulations, LEAP Solutions can provide:

  • Tailored services designed to answer your referral questions vs. assessments and services prescribed by insurance companies

  • Services provided in a timely manner vs. waiting on insurance approval

  • Services typically not available in other clinical settings due to difficulties related to insurance billing

  • More attention to the needs of the child and family vs. clerical and billing responsibilities
